Nike to raise prices on sneakers in 2012 – blame the cost of oil and gas prices

Nike plans to raise the prices on its shoes and sports clothing markedly in 2012 to cope with the rising costs of oil, cotton and transportation that are hurting its profitability. The shares in the world’s largest athletic shoe and clothing maker plunged 7 percent on fears that already stretched margins will come under even greater pressure this year and next. It reported a lower-than-expected quarterly profit on Thursday, hurt by rising production costs.
The company expects margin pressures to persist this year, intensifying in the current quarter.
“This is evidence that rising input costs are hurting Nike’s profit,” said Giri Cherukuri, a portfolio manager with OakBrook Investments, which owns Nike shares. “Nike’s margins will be under pressure for the rest of the year.”
To contend with that, Nike executives said the company would ramp up and broaden its price increases.
The company said there had been some product shortages and that suppliers would increase their capacity.
Nike forecast its gross margin during the current quarter will be 3 percentage points below year-earlier levels, but that pressure on margins would ease later in the year as price increases kick in.
“Beginning in spring 2012, we’ll take more significant price increases across a broader range of styles,” Chief Financial Officer Don Blair said on a conference call.
Blair said on the call it was too early to know how the crisis in Japan might affect its business in that country, which accounted for 3.8 percent of third-quarter sales.
Orders for Nike brand shoes and apparel scheduled for delivery from March through July 2011 totaled $7.9 billion.
By region, revenue in Nike’s largest market, North America, increased 9 percent to $1.84 billion, while sales in emerging markets and greater China rose 19 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Japan was the only market where sales fell, sliding 8 percent.

A blue upper with white trim and thin laces really does justice for this laid back look. NIke SB Dunk High "Fossil"

1st and foremost ima fan of anything dressed up in black and grey. Even though it sounds as a simple colorway, but trust me if u do it right u shouldnt have any problem breaking necks. Which brings up this new colorway of the new Fossil sb's. These are dressed up with a suede upper with that a shade of Grey known as Grit toggled against Black. in the traditional Dunk color blocking. Fossil is used to highlight the laces, midsole and lining as a finisher and boy does it ever do the trick. These are available now at ur local skateshop

Nike Lebron 8 V2 GS "Spark-Black"

Its nice to see when the small foot community gets their own colorway to make the adults a lil jealous. This new V2 pair of the lebron 8 only comes in sizes 4-7, mostly catered to the ladies, but these arent that bad at all, dressed up with spark pink all over the light weight flywire material and hints of black accents to give it that dominant look. Theyre in stores now and retail for $110

Foamposite One "Electric Green"

Looks like nike isnt done yet with the foamposite line up, next up is the electric green colorway. Usually anytime u go the black and green route, u cant go wrong. No release date info yet but i got a feelin theyll be dropping in april..call it a hunch, lol. For now just enjoy the pix..

Air Jordan 2 Max Preview

Jordan Brand shows no signs of slowing down their fusion line up, and from the looks of it semms like theyre getting better at it. Here is the 1st look at the Retro 2's dressed up with the new air max 360 sole. The 2's are naturally a comfortable shoe to begin with so i imagine with the new 360 air bubble this might be as close as we get to walking on clouds. stay tuned for release date info..
